Hey everyone,
We will be holding our next film screening on Saturday, April 14th from 4pm to 5:30pm at the Community Center. We are screening a documentary called "The Power of Community," which examines Cuba's "special period." After the fall of the Soviet Union, Cuba's oil imports were cut in half and the Cuban people faced mass energy shortages, food shortages, and economic downturn. Ultimately, it was not government policy or individual leaders who rescued them, but community. People began pooling their resources to build a resilient, local way of life based on the interpersonal connections that many Cubans had lost. It is a hopeful film that can reassure our faith in the power of community during these troubling times and inspire thought, discussion, and action. The movie is only 55 minutes long so we should have ample time for discussion.
