Great job! Feel free to invite other Adirondackeans to add to your new discussion. We look forward to setting up Transition New York sometime soon.
Hi Gail,

It's nice to know you're alive and well in the Adirondacks. I live in Greenwich, about 15 miles due east of Saratoga Springs, between the Hudson River and the Vermont border. I first learned of TT in August at Solarfest in Vermont. When I read the primer, I nearly jumped out of my skin! This is exciting stuff. I bought Rob Hopkins' book a few weeks later and have been reading it in preparation for a Transition Initiative training in Cambridge, MA next month.

Greenwich (pop. less than 2,000) is in rural southern Washington County and probably even smaller than Saranac Lake, so I would imagine we'll have similar issues to address. I look forward to talking with you sometime.

And oh yes--Great poster!

Best,
Rick
Hi Rick, I know Greenwich (although I have never been there). I will be at the training in Cambridge on the 1st & 2nd. Can't wait. It is comforting to know that others in the region are starting initiatives! TT is such a hopeful place to put our creative energies!

Have you done any awareness raising in Greenwich yet?
Hi Gail,

I can't wait for the training either, although I'll be at the 22/23 one. I haven't done anything around TT as yet. I'm still trying to organize a core group of 3 or 4. Last night I was on the Skype call with Jennifer from TT Penwith asking her how to attract people. She said that once you hold a public event, people will come out of the woodwork. That's encouraging.

So how about you? Have you begun anything yet?
Yes, we have a steering committee of 5. Four of us are members of the Adirondack Unitarian Universalist Community in town and the fifth is a professor at the local college that has studied permaculture. We have had one public event a month ago where we showed edited clips from End of Suburbia , Escape from Suburbia and A Crude Awakening. The topic was basically surviving the winter ahead 9setting up safety nets) and the long view forward. We had 100 people turn out! We collected names there of folks interested in the TT initiative (although very little was discussed about TT that night) and we got alot of names of folks that were interested in a community garden, something else we are working on.

Now we will have the second event next week.
