MIMIC THIS! When you get invited to events 3000 miles away (or 20 of them just across town), use COPY & PASTE with the really interesting events to seed your own community's plans for similar events. Why start from scratch.... Beg, borrow and mimic! More....
Welcome to the California Transition community! Here in Santa Cruz we are just getting underway. We have a steering group of around 6 wonderful folks and are busy putting on movie events. Also, we just hosted an event with Jennifer Gray, from Transition Penwith. So far, the analogy that Rob Hopkins gave, of Transition Initiatives taking off like a car shoved down a hill (rather than pushing a dead car up a hill, like environmental initiatives often feel to be), seems to be borne out in the enthusiasm of the crowds that come to our events.
I look forward to hearing from other California Transition Initiatives as they develop and sharing what we figure out.
David Blume is not currently part of Transition Santa Cruz. We have no official position about his work; however, my personal opinion is that he is putting out overly optimistic information about the potential of biofuels. I would be happy to send you more information by direct email.
In general, I think that biofuels have been overrated as a useful response to the fossil fuel crisis. They can play a useful, but quite limited role. Among my many concerns about their promotion is that they provide a false refuge for people who want to avoid facing the issue of a much lower-energy future, and the lifestyle changes that entails.
David from Portland, OR here. Just flagging this up - I am finding that access to the Transition Santa Cruz website is intermittent, in fact of late I have not been able to get in. Is this a known issue?
