Good luck with your event! We hope this work serves as a model for locals everywhere.
If those "out standing in their fields" are interested, you are welcome to use this link below to create a group (perhaps "Farmers Outstanding in their Fields" or some better name of your choice) to turn your idea into an ongoing focus of action for the Global Transition community. It would be great to see a group designed for sharing among our farmers. Let me know if you want to pursue this and have questions.
Permalink Reply by Ruth Ann Barrett on March 7, 2011 at 9:10am I ran into this report you referenced when I was researching the leadership by choice group. I was wondering if there was a follow up to the February 15th meeting and the "implications for tactical shifts in the use of the internet for organization and mobilization efforts on the parts of similar lifestyle movement organizations?"
“The Mobilization of Identities” held on February 15, 2011 at Stanford University.
Thanks, Ruth Ann

Permalink Reply by Ruth Ann Barrett on March 7, 2011 at 7:55pm Thanks. Will check back now and then. My impression from the initial comments on the report was a certain passivity, or much talk and not much, if any, action. I think the climate change folks in particular are grappling with how to be activists and advocacy as it has become clear that scientific evidence is not tipping the scale, moving the kneedle. This speech by Mary Evelyn Tucker of the EarthCharter talks about the teachings of Mahatma Ghandi and Martin Luther King Jr. and the incorporation of principles of nonviolence, democracy, and peace in its body. Many sustainability leaders, especially in the category of culture and consciousness are asking the same questions as Ms. Tucker. I was also struck by the emphasis on lifestyle as the category, a key phrase we classified in our sustainability taxonomy as Quality of Life in the people element, one of the three major categories - Planet, People, and Prosperity. I was not expecting a mission to "engage individuals to adopt new lifestyles." That is, of course, what the function of marketing focuses on and as Sir Martin Sorrell, CEO of WPP, the largest advertising agency in the world, wrote in the WPP 2008 social responsibility report, "So if the marketing industry has been unwittingly complicit in causing the problem (carbon), it’s now confronted with an historic opportunity: to shape and encourage consumer demand for sustainable products and lifestyles; to restore the true value of durability; to reject the superfluous in products and packaging;to make much of what has passed for fashion deeply unfashionable. Hi Les,
How about a tutorial on how to do a Newsletter using Ning's Message Broadcast?
When I copy and paste from Ning pages into the Message Broadcast, the links and photos don't carry over. I can copy and paste the html code, but then I have to figure out and delete a lot of code and figure out which part carries over the info I want.

This is what works for me:
Permalink Reply by Kathleen Wilson on March 16, 2011 at 10:42pm Hi Les, is there a way to have a 'attach' button in our block of 'What's on your mind?' There are things that I see on the internet that I would like to add to my page. I've been trying to figure out how to attach it...
Is this possible?
Thanks!
