What's cool in the GTIA Portfolio...
Greetings Transition U.S. Social Network,

If you learned that you had one, or two, or even three wishes in relation to any of the values of the Transition Movement, and that your wishes had a reasonable chance of being fulfilled within a very short time and with the assistance of this whole community, what would you ask for?

Use Reply to This at the bottom of this page to make your requests known to the rest of the Transition community.

REQUESTS

Feel free to let your request be known on any issue.  Your personal goals... new skills... visibility for your Transition company... something new for your geographic locality... a very active virtual discussion... support for your budding ideas... setting up a new service... coordinating activities in a newly defined region... better opportunities for collaboration with other Transitions. Get the idea?  Any interest.  YOU NAME IT!   Declare your interest.  Focus on yourself.  Be selfish for a change.  And "be careful what you ask for", as the old adage goes.

OFFERS

Feel free to respond to member requests (listed at the bottom of this page) offering your advice, requests for further clarifications, assistance, and support.  Let's see where this community wants to go.  See a perfect example of Offers meeting Requests.

Charles Alban:
I'm glad you are satisfied with your Hare Krishna religion, as I am with my own (quite different) point of view. We need Transition communities which welcome all religions and all points of view. We need to find unity in our diversity, and not pressure people to change their religion to yours, or to mine, or to anyone's. People should be comfortable with their own thoughts.
Joel Welty
I'm interested that you would respond this way. It is a very common response. Notice that the word religion is yours not mine. I'm no more in favor of religions as most of understand them than the next man, which is why I abandoned the religion I was brought up with years ago.

No, the Vedic philosophy is quite different. This is a very complete and thorough philosophy that covers all the issues that have brought us to the current disastrous state of world affairs and it offers a very practical and workable alternative which is actually being practiced successfully in many parts of the world (references available). It answers all the questions that the Transition movement raises by means of functioning, cohesive agrarian communities that are not based on a material-consumption model but a selfless spiritual model.

It would be most unfortunate to dismiss and discard this wisdom based on the misconception that this is some sort of dogmatic religion. A very valid case can be made that the reason we are in the very deep pickle in which we find ourselves is because we disregarded this philosophy of non-materialism centuries ago and decided to take a different path. The results, I'm sure you will agree, have been disastrous. I merely offer these observations as examples of something that can be demonstrated to function successfully, not as attempts to convert somebody to a particular religious viewpoint.
Charles:
I have no wish to discard or dismiss your particular point of view. You should use it. Decisions should be made taking into account many different points of view, including yours and including mine. And including the views of many others as well. We thus apply the maximum amount of brain power to the development of Transition community plans and problem solving. I thank you for the point of view you offer.
I have found with my work around Transition over the past few years, that creating a positive vision can inspire and motivate people into action.
My Wish: To support the effort to publish positive visions of our future starting with the a screenplay turning novel I have almost completed called "The Journey Home."

The project can be seen at http://kck.st/8Z0OrS.

Thanks for taking a look and passing it along to all your friends.
I wish that all the members would encourage thier Local ,State and Federal Representatives to change the Local, State and Federal Departments of Transportation into the Departments of Transportation and Transformation. Divert as much as can safely be done, of the DOT resources (engineering. tax dollars, contractor knowhow and man power) into Transition projects that will help us to get away from fossil fuel dependence...Fossil fuel got us into this predicament it is only fitting that funds from fossil fuels should help get us out of this predicament.
1-visibility for Transition in Madison, Wisconsin
2-willingness for the core group to expand out into the community, start creating events, gathering names, etc.
3-a long list of supporters of Transition Madison Area
Hi TTers!

I'm Kathy Blume from Charlotte, VT and I'm writing a book on the power of the TT model as a proactive, hopeful, inclusive, and effective response to climate change and peak oil.

My wish is to interview at least 50 people involved in all levels of their community's efforts.

It doesn't matter where you are in your process or whether it's been a smooth or bumpy ride. I don't intend to be dismissive of the challenges we're all facing. But I do believe that everyone's story is valuable, interesting, and instructive.

So, if you're willing to chat about your experiences, you can email me at kablume@gmail.com and we'll set up a time to talk.

Thanks so much!

Kathy
