March 24, 2011: Phoenix, AZ, 7-8pm, Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC), 2225 N. 16th Street, Phoenix

Join Watershed Management Group to learn about how to turn your neighborhood streets into Green Streets through green infrastructure projects!  Green infrastructure...

  • Grows vegetation with stormwater that provides habitat, shade, and community livability
  • Slows traffic and enhances neighborhood streets for walking, biking, and interaction with neighbors
  • Enhances water quality and reduces flooding, and much more!

WMG project manager Tory Syracuse will give a presentation on WMG’s Green Streets-Green Neighborhoods program, which implements green infrastructure practices through community-based projects. WMG will begin Green Streets work in Phoenix with two demonstration projects in the spring of 2011.

5. Celebrate World Water Day with Tippy Taps on March 22

International World Water Day is held each year on March 22 to call attention to the importance of fresh water supplies and to advocate for the sustainable management of freshwater resources. World Water Day 2011’s focus is on the impact of rapid urban population growth, industrialization and uncertainties caused by climate change, conflicts and natural disasters on urban water systems.

This year, celebrate World Water Day by learning about life-saving tippy taps. WMG’s India program has created a YouTube video demonstrating how to assemble a simple, low-tech tippy tap handwashing system to prevent childhood deaths due to diarrhea. Out of over 1300 videos, we were chosen for the top 16 finalists in YouTube’s nonprofit video competition – and we will have the results of the voting soon. Visit http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qdpd3roZjYw to see the video.
