What is a Positive Energy Lifestyle?

A Positive Energy Lifestyle is achieved when you combine three distinct elements (our definition).
1. An extremely efficient home structure (more efficient structures require less energy to heat & cool).
2. An environmentally responsible heating cooling system and low energy requirement appliances.
3. A means of zero pollution mobility, such as electric vehicles, optimally being solar/wind recharged.

This is basically an integration of several "categories" discussed on this entire site...as opposed to separate initiatives. We are thinking "holistically" in terms of improving your full "lifestyle".

This is also a way of being in the Community, Leading by Example, and can include such things as a Victory Garden, composting, low water use decorative vegetation (where water is an issue, as it is where we live in central Arizona)...plus other alternative devices, systems and behaviors. 

Basically we believe we do NOT necessarily need a wasteful exploitative irresponsible lifestyle (as has existed in America for many decades) in order to be comfortable and have conveniences. In fact, we actually believe we can have more comfort, more convenience and save more of our hard earned cash while supporting environmental responsibility, living harmoniously with our ecosystem and enjoying a leadership position in demonstrating a sustainable lifestyle through smart choices in which technologies to embrace and which old technologies to reject. Furthermore, we do not believe it is up to the government or industry to initiate those choices (or changes) it is squarely up to us as consumers. If I want an electric car and I will not buy a gas car...someone will make an electric car to sell to me. I don't have to wait for GM to wise up; They may never wise up. I have to drive change in my country and in the world in how I behave.

I believe it is more convenient to pay less than a dollar to recharge my electric car at night (even off the grid) than to support the philosophy of war in the Middle East by buying gasoline. It is more convenient not to have to stop at gas stations instead to conveniently leave home every day with a full tank of fuel from the sun. I believe it is more comfortable to live in a geothermally cooled home with solar radiant heating which is so efficient I can set the temperature at any level of comfort in any season of the year that suits my family's health. I believe it is healthier to live in a home with a fresh air system than a home with a recycling HVAC unit.Yes, there are many benefits to a wiser selection of technologies to integrate into my lifestyle, including the obvious financial benefits of virtually no utility bill, about 50% less water bill and never buying gasoline for my transportation and recreations. Plus we also gain the less obvious, but more important benefit of a healthier environment.

Saw your comments on positive energy lifestyle. Thought yourmight be intereted in book I wrote and also work I will do when I retire later this year. Both are summarized in material below   bill crumley

The book traces the ongoing economic impact of wars and examines the international banking institutions set up after World War 1 and World War 2. The website asks Are we completely at the mercy of these gigantic banks or do we have alternatives?

 

In addition to suggesting local alternatives the website looks at a few of the local solutions which have not only worked well for local communities but have had impacts on a broader scale. This includes the work done by the people in the Hiroshima Peace Institute, the work of a small school in southeastern Tennessee, and work done by a school in Los Angeles California. The website allows you to connect to these sites. It also gives 2 extended accounts of the book.

Cheers Donald, Had been itching to re-read your post on Positive Energy Lifestyle for the universality of the highlights. Great to find that the creeds you espoused are quite insightful and universal with a divine edge to them. It was also great to find the creeds approaching practical instances. Figure a list of observations can be built up for Transition Actions from the creed approach. Would love to to exchange Proactive Transition Creed List as something that springs from your post on Positive Energy Lifestyle: painting and describing scenes that need Transition.
