Build Us Services Trains (before) Energy Depletion

BUSTED puts pressure on city and government officials to start thinking about the need for electric trains.  If it takes 100 barrels of oil to make a car, are semis and long-distance trucking sustainable?

For a long time, even before I read The Long Emergency, I have believed we should upgrade our train infrastructure as a national security issue.  It is being done in a few places in the US but here in Ohio our new gov turned down 400 mil.  That would have help build a passenger train system from Cleveland to Cincinnati.  That could have formed a backbone for further expansion as the need arises.

Without this kind of development now while we have the capital we are going to up a creek later on as cheap oil goes  away.

It'll take 100 years to build service trains and if we don't fly we have 200 years of oil.  It'll take international cooperation to realize thorium.

The figures I quoted you are wrong.  They are overly pessimistic.

There will be less mobility in the future.  We need freight more than mobility.

Uranium buys us about 60 years, but not for mobility, just to keep the lights on.

There's 10-20 years for thorium.  For service trains it'll take 50 years.  That leaves 30 years grace when we still have oil to get it right.

Welcome Maureen.  Welcome BUSTED.  Your new group is launched, with the new BUSTED graphic.  I've also created a DAILY SCAN and pasted in the kinds of results that the scan will produce.
