MIMIC THIS! When you get invited to events 3000 miles away (or 20 of them just across town), use COPY & PASTE with the really interesting events to seed your own community's plans for similar events. Why start from scratch.... Beg, borrow and mimic! More....
The trends that drive this movement will inevitably lead to crises. Economic meltdown, peak oil, climate change have been and will continue to be noted by crisis. Between crises people will forget what we are about, but with greater frequency their attention will be drawn back by crisis.
We need to be ready for that. Whenever a crisis strikes, we should be ready with informative and inviting materials to bring more people into our movement. We should be gathering clips of food production, alternative energy development, community building, local resiliency development, etc. With good materials in our hands, we should be able to quickly build videos and other materials to suit the crisis. Never let a crisis go to waste.
Dean. My problem with the collection of clips is that people need more than just information. Henry Ford produced thousands of films (now in the National Archives) on "how to make an apple pie" etc. from (1912-1940). These are great.
But in a paradigm change, people need to understand the new frame they are living in. With such an understanding they can figure out what they need to do individually and collectively based on their place and experience and needs.
One of the best things film can do is to create these new frames to view events. Right now, the same reductionist logic that has gotten us into this ecological mess is being applied to our response to the mess. The answer is not to invent the right pill or film clip, but to reimagine our whole place in the world. We must dream the change before we can make it. And dreams are what we are about. Chris Bedford
I agree. At Transition Town Everett, we're posting (long) visions of the future. There are some differences but also a lot of similarities. I wouldn't say they are at all reductionist. My plea is that we equip ourselves to communicate our dreams.
Can you give me an example of reductionist logic in our response to the mess. I'd like to avoid that.
Dreaming the change is where I would like to contribute from the perspective of interfaith monotheisitc commons that has been part of socieities across the Earth.I would like to share my presentation at http://slideshare.net/mukhtaralam and seek comments. There is a presentation there on interfaith commons. The change includes acceptance of carbon-neutral faith based leisure, transforming finance system through abolition of usury, adoption of local materials for construction of houses etc..
