  Hey all,

   Somerville Climate Action/ the Transition Somerville Initiative ( we merged) had a busy year and this year might ( with the hope of flying pigs-my joke) get even busier.  We are heavily influenced by 350.org.

Somerville is environmentally friendly, and after all the floods last year

is thinking about non-permeable surfaces rather than asphalt.  Somerville has way too much asphalt.  We had a work party October 11

to depave a man's back yard and many people came.  We hope to work on the garden in the spring.  Check out depave.org/  Or is it on this site?

Future Dawning is also linking up with the International Academy of Holodynamics to interest people nationwide in supporting prison reform in all states. And, our prison reform program is based on getting all prisons and jails to raise their own food using inmate labor to do so. We need rehab programs, not punishment and it is known that gardening can be a life-transforming endeavor. There is an excellent book written by Eva Shaw, Ph.D., entitled "Shovel It - Nature's Health Plan." Believe it or not, gardening can avert a heart attack, lower blood pressure, strengthen bones, and reduce stress -- both emotional and physical. Gardening is excellent therapy for cancer and other diseases. One of the first to combine cutting-edge medical research and gardening secrets for the first time -- listening to the voice of nature -- Dr. Shaw's book can be a "life saver."

Another favorite book of mine is "Gardening For The Future of the Earth," by Howard-Yana Shapiro, and John Harrison, the author's note that the "Future of the world lies in gardening." It is the primary activity that connects the human family to the Earth upon which we depend for our survival. Designed to promote action, i am sorry to say that this book first published in 2000, is now out of print. However, it may be possible to acquire a copy of it from a used book store. It really is a diamond among other gems.

I hope these videos and book recommendations will elicit some thoughts on what we can do together. This is a movement we need to grow quickly in order to forestall the growing epidemic of hunger worldwide. And, lack of proper nutrition plays a role in both mental illness and in creating the large prison population we have today as i will go into later.

As the Founder of www.FutureDawning.org, i would like to explore how we can link this group together with FDE and make it part of virtual learning center think tank that FDE.org is. Our mission is to bring together 1 million or more of the most creative minds we can find to address the "unprecedented in past recorded history challenges" the human family faces today. And, i see gardening and changing the way in which we raise our food and eat as playing a major role in the social transformation we must make today if we are to survive as the human family.

Future Dawning Enterprises is working closely with the International Academy of Holodynamics - Founder/Director V. Vernon Woolf. Dr. Woolf and his team have developed a new way of gardening that will allow us to produce approximately 8x the amount of food we get using the conventional method. So, it appears we would all benefit from setting up a site on the FDE virtual learning center where we could create a webpage (which we call a Portal & Pathway) to serve as a virtual research center for the creation of new ways of raising food.

This P&P would be very complementary to the "Coherent Hearts Network" P&P which is set up to explore new healthful ways of eating that are life-enhancing. It is also set up with the idea in mind of disseminating our findings to those in the field of medicine, e.g., doctors, nurses, dieticians, nutritionists, worldwide so we are always "heart healthy" as well as in all other ways.

As a membership organization we intend to seek donations that can be used for research purposes to counteract the propaganda disseminated by Big Ag, Big Pharma, the FDA and other agencies that need a national force to keep an eye on them.

What is so exciting about TransitionUS and the way Les has set this up is the potential it opens up for networking these ideas together and constantly creating new organizations that overlap one another and are transparent so that the right hand always knows what the left hand is doing so there are no surprises.

Hello Everyone,

Just joined this group. I joined as an individual but I also represent Mother Earth's Community Garden in Fort Smith Arkansas. It has been like pulling teeth in this town to get people to participate. We have decided to take a step back from simply providing space for people to grow their own food and instead, have the garden as a teaching garden. We will offer classes in permaculture, urban agriculture, and sustainable farming.

Okay... didn't get my little farm house, but really happy where I landed. Back in Colorado Springs and hoping to get some of the gardening finished up this year that will get it all set up for next year.
