Comment by Jen Mazer on February 5, 2011 at 1:36am Hi Franz I may be interested in joining Solcom but can't seemto find the link anywhere. Is it true one has to be invited? If so, could you invite me?
Thanks, Jen
Jen, Solidarity Economy and Commons do belong together, but are still different perspectives. Solidarity Economics is more about how independent economic actors coordinate and bring their values into their economic action, whilst the commons is about mutual dependency on resources that need to be taken care of by common action. Its a slight difference, but enough to create even different cultures. We want to unify the cultures here. There are more cultures: As you say, local money, but also seemengly opposing demonetization, there is transition, etc. - Here is an emerging reality with what I would call patterns in Christopher Alexanders sense. None of them is "right" or "wrong" or even "primordial". Its more about learning to understand the potentials, the strengthes and weaknesses of all these patterns.
If you like, one could say that instead of a big beneficial dictatorship-machine like in the current version of the Zeitgeist movie, our only chance is an emergence of cultures around patterns that succeed in learning about their collaborative power.
