Greetings Friends! Located in Everett, WA, we are Green Everett. We will celebrate our third year of existence this month. I just learned of the Transition Movement this past summer and promptly brought it to the group. We are in touch with Cindi in Bellingham about getting started.

Very exciting!

Hi Folks,

Glad to be aboard.

I am from Eugene, OR and have started "Transition-Eugene-Springfield" and Transition Willamette Valley" on the "Transition Oregon" website.

This is the next logical step, then we go to "Transition World".

I am looking forward to fruitful discussion here.

Thanks.

Per the idea of a lending/online library: that's on my list, actually, at least in terms of providing book lists or bibliographies under various subtopics (food, transportation, etc). What I would love to see happen is for individuals to suggest titles for purchase by their local libraries. We at Orcas island Library are always open to suggestions from our community members, and I think most other libraries are too, budgets permitting--especially if they get the message that numerous people are interested in a given title and would use it!
Also, of course, it's helpful to share lists of annotated websites, blogs, etc., which many of the blogs do themselves.
I'd like to see the WholeIslandsCatalog.net (for the San Juan islands) have more features like that too.
I like the Cascadia idea, too, especially if we can tie it into natural means of connection such as the Sail Transport Network (www.culturechange.org).

Let me know when you get your lending library up and running and I'll be glad to let the whole community know about it, how to use it, etc.

Phil: What if we developed a lending library with the books needed for
folks to understand what their new world will look like? It could partly
an on-line library and a book list of books available throught interlibrary
loan or from individuals that are part of Relocalizatio/Transition Towns.

Knowledge is power (if you use the knowledge, I guess)

Lane: I am wondering if it might be possible to organize some kind of coalition of existing non-profits and NGO's who collaborate together on projects related to their similiar missions.

Would you be interested in setting up a separate ning website -- might be named http://transitioncascadia.ning.com -- I'd be delighted to provide the same kind of assistance I've been providing for the rest of our ning sites. Let me know. Happy 2009.
