Also, please check out what I'm doing with my company at www.emergentgroup.com - thanks! We're working with Transition Towns to implement sustainability and alternative energy plans/strategies.

Can we figure out how to grow this Movement in the Hudson Valley? It's such a huge geographic area, with millions of people in it. How can we make our group bigger?

One of the things that excites me about our Transition group is that we have organized it around the common life blood of our region, the Hudson River. In keeping with the Transition Movement's commitment to preserving and developing deep, ancestral knowledge, I feel that part of my role as a Transitioner currently living in the Hudson Valley is to be "guardian" for the role of this river in the American story. The Native name for the Hudson means "two way flowing river," and the history of the river also flows two ways. It flows toward ecology and the beauty of the natural world; The Hudson River Painters School directly inspired the first Wilderness Preservation Acts in the United States. And the river flows toward commerce and has a long history of industry. I see one of the roles of Transition Hudson Valley as creating a new chapter in the 'two way flowing' story of the Hudson (on the 400th year of Henry Hudson's voyage) as communities throughout the Hudson Valley region transition create all sorts of new ways to 'flow both ways,' economically and ecologically.
