What's cool in the GTIA Portfolio...
Rose Skora is an Agriculture Educator with the Kenosha/Racine UW Cooperative Extension. She is an editor of the Farm Fresh Atlas of Southeastern Wisconsin ( http://www.farmfreshatlas.org/southeast/ and available in hardcopy ) which helps connect consumers with local farmers.

She will speak Monday March 14, 6:30 p.m., at Gateway, Racine Bldg., Huron Room (104). All are welcome.

The Steering Committee thought of some topic that might be of interest, and we've submitted them to her in advance. These include -
-Adequacy of regional farm acreage for the region's population
-Impact on agriculture of expected regional population growth and land development
-How can area chain supermarkets be encouraged to carry more local produce
-Impact of tax and subsidy policy on family farms
-Steps and costs to achieving organic certification or organic-similar operation.

If you have any questions, there will surely be opportunity to ask at the meeting, and/or feel free to contact her at her UWEx email address
rose.skora@ces.uwex.edu .

Hope to see you there!

Rose Skora was kind enough to share the slides of her presentation.  They are attached to this reply.  Just click on the file named "ChangingFaceOfAgriculture2.pdf".  (Below the Farmers Markets in America Graphic.)

The Farmers Market Map is something I came across after Rose's presentation which shows where Farmers Markets are available throughout the USA.  I thought it was interesting.  Click on the map to make it bigger.

Cheers
