What's cool in the GTIA Portfolio...
Transition Anchorage Training steering committee is working on getting official TT training in Anchorage this Sept and is hoping to coordinate with the rest of the TT mullers in AK to join us. Tentatively schedule for mid Sept, and are hoping to hear if that date will work for everyone wanting to come; or if we change it to accomidate for more people coming, which would be the best dates.
It is a two day all day conference so needs to be done on a weekend and that is why it would be hard to do one in each city. We do not want to compete with summer activities, Bioneers in Oct, or the event Robert Shields with Vertical Gardens is trying to do this summer in Fairbanks. And that is why we picked Mid Sept. If you know of any other event around that time we need to block out time for please let me know.

We think a good estiamated rough costs for tickets is around $50-75 a person, depending on how much fundraising we do. The avg cost for the conference is between $4k-5k, which only includes trainers fee, trainers airfair, trainers lodge & food, costs, conference location costs, etc. We are trying to pull this off with as much volunteer TT hours as possible to keep costs low, and would appreciate any help. We are trying to get a free room at UAA, and are waiting to hear back on possiblilities of. If you know of any great places that holds between 50-100 people please let us know. So far besides UAA, BP Energy rooms, and Wilda Marston Auditorium are a few others already suggested.

One of our main goals here is to use community building, outreach, education, and inclusion to pull in groups that we haven't associated with before as well as ones we have, to help bring about the needed changes in our communities using the TT model with this official training project. In Anchorage we plan one doing some TT educational training & skill building get togethers throughout the summer to do this, as well as use them as fundraising, TT educaiton, and outreach opportunities. And that this will hopeful help other communities do the same.

We are hoping on getting at lease a few people from each TT mulling city to come, learn & share, and to bring the knowledge back to their own home town to share. We will be setting up a Skype conference call-ins once a month to coordinate the effort with all the towns and cities across AK, to support and share ideas with each group with fundraising ideas, reduced airfair ideas, and rooms sharing ideas to help keep costs low. If you are interested please comment on this discussion, and contact me at uniquers3@gmail.com. Thanks you. Triena

Our next meeting will be at a TT members' home to brainstorm partnering groups & orgs to help make this happen. We will start collecting names to fill in the circles of the perils in the necklace concept for each of the different groups like food, housing, transportation, heart & soul, arts, etc to help make sure we have all the groups around town involved to ensure the possibility of making th TT model training we will be receiving the most effective it can be. And that those groups get the same training as us, so we are all on the same page. So, if you know of any groups you already associate with you think would be interested and mutually benefiting, please email me them. And or come to the brainstorming night. To get on the email list of that meeting or anything else, please email your request at

Thanks

Yes, thanks. We are trying to miss the Permaculture class in August. But since we thought Aug was still in Summer activities too much (harvest, foraging, fishing, etc), we didn't discuss holding the training in Aug. Thanks for asking though.
