What's cool in the GTIA Portfolio...
The Willits Economic LocaLization (WELL) has been going a number of years. A number of "early adopters" in Willits including Lanny, Annie, and Richard, recommended that "Willits join with Transitions to share ideas and expand our effectiveness."

I'd like to talk about how best to do this. I have some questions to start. What are the advantages and disadvantages of joining with Transitions? If its worth joining, how do we best utilize the on-line community tools and resources? What's the best way to get others in Willits to join? What's the most effective way to interact with the larger Transitions community?

Jed brings up some good questions. Unfortunately, I haven't the answers. Others?

Then again, we could join the TRANSITION TOWNS conference in Templeton Jan 17-18.

Then again, I probably won't.

Like Brer Rabbit, I'm lying low in the brier patch.
One of the "tools" Transitions has added since I last posted is the blue box on the right that allows us to search all the Transition sites.

So if I want to learn what's being said about Willits on the U.S. site, the California site, or on the Willits site (or other places, I can look it up.

I'm sure we'll find a good way to be involved. Suggestions?
Actually, Transition Towns took a number of ideas that originated at WELL, and made them part of the transition actions. Officially placing Willits on the map as a Transition Town will be an afterthought. Continuing the transition that the WELL has started will be a continuously evolving activity in which we can learn from the trials and issues facing the other communities that are also in transition.

I feel that open space is one of the Transition tools that Willits will find new and exciting. In my opinion the heart and soul groups, and connections to the WELL and other groups already active locally will be instrumental in transitioning Willits for the lower carbon future that awaits us.

The down-side of joining other transition towns will be admitting the issues facing Willits. Well, perhaps that will not be so bad....
