Independent documentary all about "What does sustainability mean?" needs YOU!

"Sust Enable: The Metamentary" is a project of Transition Pittsburgh. Our film is all about "what does sustainability mean?" And we explore this question at all levels of the film's creation--making it a truly holistic and mindful endeavor. Our story, style and real world filmmaking processes will all reflect our developing understanding of sustainability. Only by exploring sustainable process will we be able to produce the best possible film about sustainability. We are concerned with how…See More

Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
I participate in community gatherings and I'm working on a feature-length independent documentary about the complex meaning of sustainability in my life, which may involve lots of individuals and projects in my region.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I identify with the internal experience of profound shifting, of pulling away from the culture that I was raised with and desiring new values, new self-definitions, new kinds of community. Nothing matters more to me than being immersed and engaged in the process of defining sustainability in our lives.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
I can offer the framework, motivation, and training to produce an artistic, well-researched, mindfully undertaken film project that may help contextualize young Americans' experiences of disenfranchisement and discomfort with the dominant paradigm's efforts to co-opt the word "sustainability" and control its meaning in the public discourse. I hope the film will connect with and give cinematic "voice" to Americans who sense that there is much more to that word, but they're scared that no one in power seems to be asking the right questions or taking the necessary action. This film is both about defining sustainability and reflecting on how sustainability defines us, and about the conflict between American socialization and understanding sustainability.

Hi, Caroline, Your profile responses and the vision for the film is indeed a good news for new. Through sharing this to my Facebook contacts, I would like to show that no longer US should be viewed as a nation that follows what Bush implied about not compromising with the life style.UNDP is discussing the equity and sustainability in reduction of GHG emissions and there, I am sure sharing about you and your work along with the sharing of this network would give many hope for the things that are happening across the word and specially in US that had been considered as a nation blocking Kyoto Protocol for some of the reasons that I found acceptable as there was a call for simultaneity in action on climate change and proportionate reduction of emission across the board. Some of my European freind and Indian friends did not like the proposition for this proportionate reduction.
