Research on free speech and self censorship

This may be familiar to those who gravitated from relocalize.net so if it's redundant, sorry in advance. I am conducting research for my dissertation on free speech and self-censorship and have developed a web-based questionnaire that I hope to get some members of Transition United States to participate in.While it's easy to talk amongst ourselves about issues such as peak oil, climate change, etc., it may be less easy out in the general population or at work. Therefore, I'm looking for people…See More

Dancing around the hard facts

The question from NBC/MSNBC's Chuck Todd including the following: "...if your plan works the way you want it to work, it's going to increase consumer spending. But isn't consumer spending, or overspending, how we got into this mess?" I applaud Todd for asking a borderline taboo question about the consumer economy but it…See More

A Call for Front Porches

Posted on October 26, 2008 at 8:30pm 1 Comment

Those of us familiar with what constitutes good urban design know that the front porch plays a central role in establishing a sense of friendliness and community on a residential street. So I am putting out a call to all municipalities, builders and developers, and homebuyers to accept nothing less than a house pulled close to the street and fashioned with a nice, big front porch that can hold a porch swing, a few Adirondack chairs, a mailbox, and nice big welcoming front door. With Halloween… Continue

Great blog Christopher. I look forward to seeing how you get involved with a Transition Initiative in the Boston area. Did you take the Tranining for Transition course in Cambridge? I took in Nov 22-23. I look forward to connecting with other people in the Boston area.

Cheers,
Stan

Welcome Christopher and soon to be Transition Massachusetts! Great to see you here. You're taking the course soon. Can we get you to take a few notes for us and share them here? That was be super.

We invite you to go to Starting Local Groups on Transition US and then to Massachusetts. Tell us a little more about what's happening in Concord (I lived in Boston/Wellesley for 22 years). We are currently vetting the most active states to set up Transition networks with them. Your participation on these pages will help make the decisions.
