Intentional Community

We once lived in tribal or extended family communities. Technology has enabled us to develop into a nuclear family society model but this has led to increased consumption, isolation and alienation.Intentional community is a means back to the efficiency, connectedness and support of tribal living.See More

Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
ATD Symposium and 2-day T4T training completed by 12/08; providing services with my venture, Applied Ecologics; blogging at http://blog.interdependencedesign.com/ and at http://woburnite.com/blog/5
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I am a "sower" and "husband" of sustainability vision for entities of all kinds. "Where there is no vision, the people perish."

In the vision, whole and local return to the foreground.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
By inserting what "headquarters" overlooks and leaves to chance. My focus is on transforming initiatives' hope for cohesion into vision, understanding and skill that will facilitate viable and ever-more-inclusive interdependence.

I completed a permaculture design certification course in April 2010, completed the Massachusetts Forum for Creating Healthier Communities (2008-2009), am a BPI-certified building analyst and a NOFA-accredited organic land care professional.

I am available to this movement as a communicator and guide. I welcome opportunities to write and speak of interdependence, resilience and sustainability.

Forget About Proactively Co-ordinating ~7 Billion People

Posted on December 8, 2010 at 12:52pm 0 Comments

There is transition and there is Transition. The former is happening/inevitable, and in it people, one by one, will turn to and/or against each other. The latter is happening/possible, and in it people voluntarily increase the odds that turning to will be more than turning against will be. Either way, the masses will vacate the neutral center between those options, where complacency is rife. It will not remain a place to live.

It's a shame (tragic fact) that Rob and…

Playing Into a New Comfort Zone

Posted on September 29, 2009 at 6:12pm 0 Comments

I found myself thinking of Transition and the active games King On the Mountain, Red Rover and Sardines. The games are illustrative of some relationships and dynamics with which we're all (I presume) familiar. If you don't know the games, you'll be OK.

I generally think of King On the Mountain as what elites, and the governments they manipulate, use the planet to play: get on top and shove the others down in all directions. As far as I've thought, it's not analogous to anything we… Continue

Handle Like-mindedness With Care

Posted on August 11, 2009 at 7:30am 2 Comments

The like-mindedness we need most, that will encourage and build enduring relationships among people who haven't gotten together before, is along the lines of "OMG, all our eggs are in one basket!" That's overlooked, not uncertain or controversial. The like-mindedness associated with positions in controversies, at first energizing (I'm not alone and maybe we're becoming the majority!), easily becomes a trap, a kind of dead end. Or it doesn't serve when the going gets rough.

Wanted: Fully Present and Productive Owners

The following is copied and pasted from my blog at woburnite.com

Because the name of my business is Applied Ecologics, I frequently startle people and activate their curiosity by simply stating it. From my angle, it's apparent they've heard something they were not expecting to hear. I see they sense it's something well-meaning, and likely beneficial, but that they cannot readily grasp. I try to help them understand, with… Continue

I'm in California, where the big news is the economy (or lack thereof).  Where are you located and what's the real story with Irene in your neck of the woods?  I've been speaking with some friends in the Tidewater area of Virginia about their experience to get an accurate report.  Would you say that the news coverage was accurate or over-hyped in your area?  (it was a very bad, but not catastrophic storm just north of Norfolk.  3 days w/o power or phones, lots of tree limbs down, etc.).

Thank you! My decision to sign up was rather spontaneous, although passively I am in since few months. To understand why I decided right now you can read my last post on GBA (http://gbasetup.ning.com/forum/topics/restart-1?commentId=2146220%3AComment%3A11684&xg_source=activity). Anyhow my intention is to reach some kind of agreement with David B. there before being possibly really active here.
