John F Neville commented on Kathy McMahon's blog post 'Beyond Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs'
"I think some people are missing the point of the Maslow hierarchy. It is not a prescription. It is an observation. As Gandhi said, "There are people in the world so hungry, that God cannot appear to them except in the form of bread." That…"

Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
We are organizing the Verde Resilient Communities - a network of 6 communities in the Verde Valley. I have been leading Sustainable Arizona for 7 years and been involved with sustainable development as a professional for 22 years.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
It is logical. We are moving towards economies that must exist without fossil fuels. We can either plan for the transition and control some of it. Or we can be swept along as our economies fail.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
We'll see. I've been doing this sort of thing since I was a young teen, and have learned a lot of what not to do - and some of what to do. Our groups are full of talented, sharp and passionate people of all different ages and levels of experience. We'll see how it goes.
Your Favorite Books/Websites/Blogs/RSS Feeds for Information about the Transition Movement
I wouldn't call anything a favorite. They are the usual sites. I'm finishing COMMUNITY and THE POLITICS OF PLACE by Dan Kemmis, a good look at the West. There are many other books I have read by Orr and Heinberg and others over the years. all good.

Hi John

I won't be at VVREO...that last meeting I attended showed me that my energies are best used otherwise (plus the meeting itself ate up quite a bit of my "day off"). But I'll join the VV chapter and try to come to some of the meetings. Best, Deb Darby aka Valencia Bathe
