Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
Attending meetings of mulling group now headed toward raising awareness stage.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I believe we need to wake up to reality of peak oil and climate change and help each other become ready for the transition from cheap oil by becoming focused and active in very local ways.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
I am not sure yet.
Currently, I am a student in Earth Literacy, a sustainability and ecological citizenship program in an interdisciplinary framework.
Previously I was an addictions counselor and so have some understanding of the addiction/recovery process and can see how it is helpful to use that as a model for our withdrawal from oil based culture.
Your Favorite Books/Websites/Blogs/RSS Feeds for Information about the Transition Movement
The Fifth Sacred Thing, by Starhawk is a great illustration of "visioning". A fictional account of the future and how we can live sustainably. A creative, entertaining break from the non-ficiton books, even if it is not the top of literary quality. It's a good story.
Staying in Place, by Russell Scott Sanders. A book about being grounded be place. I can't do it justice w/ my descrip. His writing can make me smile and cry. It goes right to my heart and soul.
