Jacques-Yves Cousteau (11 June 1910 – 25 June 1997)
French naval officer, explorer, ecologist, filmmaker, innovator, scientist, photographer, author and researcher who studied the sea and all forms of life in water.
He co-developed the aqua-lung (Feb 3, 1943), pioneered marine conservation and was a member of the Académie française.
By the ones he touched... he will always be loved.... and lifted in our hearts to the heavens... as "le Commandant Cousteau"... oh Captain, my Captain... Jacques-Yves Cousteau
A small Green Sea Turtle was found along a rock wall near the Dive In dive center in Key Largo, completely covered with thick, black oil. The baby turtle was rescued, using mayonnaise (which dissolves the oil without harming the turtle) TurtleHospital.org

Immeasurable beauty lives where dolphins swim free... We are so blessed to experience life on such a beautiful planet...
Although, blind to her beauty.... industrial giants profit as they destroy the loving whales alive... and dolphins now swim in their toxic byproducts... If we do not defend the Living Oceans from the industrial profiteers, who will...
For all of time.... and the infinite universe... we have ONE planet...
Although now back in my native Delaware Valley bioregion I lived in Miami and Hallendale some years ago. I operated a charter sailboat out of Coconut Grove , taught sailing, worked with research groups and generally lived lightly and very happily there.
I suspect we have some mutual friends. I taught sailing at Marine Resources Development Center, had some contact with Dolphins Plus, and was a neighbor and supporter of The Dolphin Projects and Reef Relief.
Although I'm very busy with my sustainability work here I would love to participate in reducing the toxic load of pollution in the gyre. As an AB with the US Merchant Marine I was responsible for putting some of it there. I would delight in making amends for that.
Welcome Larry! You're our 1000th member here in Transition US. I sent out this message last evening -- Congrats, Larry Capt. Lawhorn of Garden Cove - Ocean Side, our 1000th member, interested in Coral reef restoration, ocean conservation, solar energy -- http://EcoDelMar.org/ocean

I see that Andy from our New Zealand site has already contacted you. Enjoy!
Hi Larry! Just wanted to connect. I am a freelance environmental writer, fundraiser and information specialist, working for WWF-UK and WWF-NZ on marine programmes among other things. Just did some work on Reef restoration on the Mesoamerican in Belize and could put you in touch with the some of the WWF folk there if you don't know them already. Will skype you in a mo to take this offline. cheers Andy
