Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
My wife Cindy and I took the 2-day Training For Transition Course in Victoria, B.C. I'm on the steering committee of Sustainable NE Seattle (http://sustainableneseattle.ning.com/), which represents a cluster of neighborhoods within the larger city, and which recently was recognized by Transition US as the 19th official Transition Initiative in the US. In May 2009 we sponsored the 2-day Training for Transition course in Seattle. More recently I've been working with others launch Transition Seattle to operate at the city level.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
The Transition movement has the right approach to bringing the community together to build community resilience and start visioning a better future by working with the realities of energy descent, climate change, and economic crisis in a positive way.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
I'm working to promote neighbors growing their own food, building awareness through planning films and discussions, and gathering information for discussion groups on creating local currency.

I'm also encouraging other organizations within Washington State that are doing work of interest to Transition people to list themselves as "Groups" on http://transitionwashingtonstate.ning.com/

How are you talking about Peak Oil this month?

Posted on October 24, 2008 at 6:00pm 4 Comments

Our group in Seattle is just starting our "awareness" campaign, which we're kicking off with a screening of "The End of Suburbia," as recommended by Rob in the Transition Handbook. But the book was still hot off the press when the economy here tumbled, sending oil prices way down. I'm expecting some folks in the audience to raise the question: "But doesn't the drop in oil prices prove that peak oil isn't real?"

I assume that everyone here understands that the economy is collapsing in… Continue

I'm making my business materials, and I wonder how to obtain the image on the cover of the Transition Handbook... Google Images didn't work, and I know I can always re-invent the wheel and crop the image myself... but can you help me get it elsewhere?

What a cool video of an awesome event!!! I was wondering how I'd survive baking bread in the insane heat... refusing to use the electric energy, delaying the task I usually love... when I stumbled upon your video of solar cooking!!! Sue McGann had told me about that! I must make one! Hey! Maybe even before the Seattle Night Out neighborhood block party, August 4th!

Who do I contact?

Lovin' you,
~Bree

Hi Leo,

Good to meet you in Seattle. We are excited about taking this forward on Lopez and will certainly reach out to you when we need support.

Thanks for taking the initiative with Cindy to host the training.
With love,
Clive

Judith,

we can spread the word via the Cohousing-L mailing list and website as well; there's some folks coming up from the SF Bay Area who are also involved in the Transition town movement... I'm one of them (coming from Peak Oil group/relocalization experience with early Post-Carbon Initiative projects), but I haven't been to the full training yet, and I see it as part of a wider group of aligned movements.

Hi Leo,

I'm going to be in England on those dates, unfortunately. I return on May 12. Please keep me in mind for future dates. Thanks! Robin

Hi Leo -

I'm hoping you can help me. I was scheduled to give a talk on "Cohousing and Transition" in Seattle at the end of June at the national cohousing conference, but had to bow out. I'm now looking for someone in the PNW who is a member of a Transition group, lives in cohousing, and would like to share the word! This is an opportunity to help inspire others along the Transition path.

Do have any leads? Would you spread the word via the Transition Washington site?

I can be contacted either through Ning or at judithanew@gmail.com.

Thanks so much!

cheers,
Judith
