With Respect To World/European Social Forum

Regarding the planned European Social Forum of 2010:

Good to see World Organizing manifesting itself in a regional context.

To whatever extent we can get people together to introduce, discuss, inculcate, and progress the ecosocialist agenda and that of world unity and cooperation, the forums will hopefully continue to serve a purpose.

One problem that I have is the "jet set" modality of the… Continue

Hiya Mike, thanks for you input. It's funny how all the stuff we knew about back in the 70's just hovered beneath the surface of mass consciousness for the last 30 years and all of a sudden the world wakes up(myself included) and remembers that we're running out of oil and what the consequences could be. The first reponse a lot of people have is the same response the Bush Administration had, which was to militarily control the oil supply and "drill baby drill". As short sighted as usual I suppose. But there's one difference now, we now have the political will to change. I'm hoping we can build on what has been started all around America since the election of Barack Obama. I know we don't have time for 'Baby Steps', but at least we're walking and you have to do that before you can run. The spiritual aspect is so important in my eyes, people have to stop thinking about themselves as islands and start grasping the idea of interconnectedness. I look forward to exploring these and other ideas in the future of this important movement.
Peace and Love

Immeasurable beauty lives where wildlife is free...
We are so blessed to experience life
on such a beautiful planet...

Although, blind to her beauty....
industrial giants profit as they destroy
the living whales alive...
and dolphins now swim in their toxic byproducts...
If we do not defend the Living Oceans
from the industrial profiteers,
who will...

For all of time....
and the infinite universe...
we have ONE planet...

How can we be so blind... to so much beauty...

In all the universe...
We have the only Living Oceans...

Hi Mike!
Our phones have been down for about 6 days due to the winter storm that nailed us. They came back on-line this morning. I just went to dial your number to say hi...and the line is down again.
One of these days!
I hope you're well and that everything is going splendidly!
Say hi to Isaac C. if you see him!

Could you forward those messages to the US E-Mail List?
You just mailed a test message and it worked.

If those are not appropriate for that distribution list, then what is?
Groups are using the mailer to send encouragements to come to events, alerts of major developments within the group.

Again, if I send an US E-Mail list distribution should I expect to get a copy of it myself (given that I am a member of such group)?
Yes.

You sent your messages to me individually, not to the US email facility. To send to the group, you enter the group and click on MAIL TO GROUP.

However, your two postings were discussion material, not quickie announcements of things in the group. IT's a best practice to start a Discussion within the group if you want to post this kind of thought provoking material. Let me know if you have questions.

Hi Mike,

It may make sense to "jump" over finding folks in West Linn and it's surrounding environs and talk about a more regional "cooperative". Part of the challenge communities and regions are going to face in an age of "powering down" and facing a smaller and more local economy is making sure that communities and regions (Willamette Valley watershed) have an efficient distribution and mix of local businesses required to sustain basic society (i.e. clothing/footwear manufacture...small scale admittedly but we still need skilled shoe and clothing makers). Same for all kinds of food, non-power hand tools and some much smaller suite of service businesses.
Not only does someone (or some entity) need to ensure that the region has all of the basics, but that each small business owner has access to local markets, a way to maintain a trading ledger (we may well be using a combination of goods bartering, local script and dollars or silver and gold coins). If these small businesses are all part of a larger regional cooperative owned by all of the owners (and other community members) we can do a better job of providing all of those basic goods and services to the entire region AND we can better share the rewards of such commerce amongst all coop members.
Far more detail needed than I can put in a brief email but hopefully you get the general idea. I think local and/or regional cooperatives could well be an excellent business and social model for the future.

Each Group is a mailing list. Clicking on SEND MAIL TO GROUP sends out an email to everybody on the list. Works just like Yahoogroups.com or Googlegroups.com
