Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
The transition movement is a new concept for me. Recently, a friend of mine (who I became friends with as a result of joining the Pickens Plan) sent me a link to Rob Hopkins speaking at TED. From there I began watching other Transition Town videos on YT and this concept of transitioning became increasingly appealing to me. So, here I am.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
First, I would like to say that I consider using the word transition was a great move. In just a little experimentation in speaking to others and framing my message around the concept of transition, I have observed that the word does not activate the typical defensive or offensive systems of the individual. In other words, I can talk to others in the terms of transitiion and not be perceived as being some doomsday "kook" or conspiracy theorist.

As we are in a state of perpetual transition, it is good to move into being a knowing cause of the transition rather than being the effect.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
We'll see what rolls out. :)

PEAK EVERYTHING: An Interactive Look At How Much Of Everything Is Left

Excerpts:

Scientific American has done a great summary of peak commodity levels as well as depletion projections for some of the most critical resources in the world including oil, gold, silver copper, not to mention renewable water, as well as estimating general food prices over the next half century. Generally speaking, regardless of whether one believes in…

What a Crazy Notion - Hyperinflation in America!

Posted on September 14, 2010 at 7:39am 0 Comments

Well, another "pole climber" is sharing his view from after climbing high up the pole. His name is Gonzalo Lira and the title of his article (actually blog) is, How Hyperinflation Will Happen In America. While I wouldn't necessarily call Gonzalo's report from up the pole a "must read", I did find it to be most interesting - interesting enough to share. And, if it does happen like he describes, I'll at least know what's happening as it's happening. If you're curious, here's…

Article - Population: Thinking About Our Future

Posted on September 13, 2010 at 2:11pm 1 Comment

This article, POPULATION: THINKING ABOUT OUR FUTURE, was posted on the Oil Drum today (the 13th of Sept). When you get a chance it's worth a read.

Excerpts:

Here is a different example, still using crude oil. The United States reached its peak oil production in 1970, when our population was about 203 million. Had it been necessary for us to live within our means with respect to oil after 1970, we would have needed to reduce our…

Excerpts:

This week a study on peak oil by a German military think tank was leaked on the Internet. The document shows that the German government is closely studying the issue of peak oil, and is aware of the potential for serious consequences as oil production declines. The study is…
