Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
Just recently retired and purchased 4.5 acres of land up in the Palomar Mountains. With plans to build a comfortable home. Maybe because this is the first time I've been able to stop and smell the roses. Instead of retirement I realized that there is a whole natural movement out there that is questioning the excepted way that things should be. Thinking outside the box.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
My 4.5 acres is transitioning into a research experiment in healthy supplemental food production and energy. Also active locally in the political arena trying to get the local politicos to act in the interest of the local community and not their pocket books.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
Not totally sure yet only just came upon the Transition Network.
In the late 1980s' I used my boat to lead an expedition against the North Pacific Driftnet Fleet that was strip-mining the North Pacific Fisheries instead of harvesting them. Put them out of business and got that form of fishing banned by the UN. This was done as part of a group. I'm in the process of rebuilding this or creating a like minded group. All in our sixties and seventies and had the passion to change the way things were done. See if I can rekindle that passion
Your Favorite Books/Websites/Blogs/RSS Feeds for Information about the Transition Movement
The only information I've seen about the Transition Movement was your Network. This came about when looking though Ning Creators to see if there is away to categories Groups.
Which I still need to understand. Anyway it got my attention.
Suggestions you have for improving our Registration questions. Getting to know you better.
Didn't seem to be any problems.
I'll wait to see if I'm accepted

Welcome Rob,

Great to see your interest in Transition! Welcome to GLOBAL TRANSITION IN ACTION. You mention in your registration "...Instead of retirement I realized that there is a whole natural movement out there that is questioning the excepted way that things should be...."  Who needs retirement. :) You'll find many others here who think as you do.  Let's also Friend.

Please join and click anytime on Transition group members in California to join your neighbors in discussions and events.  Click on any person's photo to say hello and find out more about their Transition interests. Reinforce the good things they are doing. Mention something that particularly interests you.  Have fun!

On the local scene, does Escondido have a Transition-supporting website, or blog, or listserv, or Facebook, or Meetup? If so, it would be spot on for all our members if you would consider including a link to Escondido in our registry of organizations, localities, companies, products, services, Twitterers, Facebooks, Meetups, etc. supporting Transition and Sustainability. Here's the page to create the link.  I'll be glad to help launch and build your link. And answer your question about categorizing groups.

One more thing. It would be super to see your photo -- Click on Choose File and then follow instructions. Let me know if you need assistance. I'll be delighted to do some photoshopping if needed.

Again, welcome!

Les
