"How about maps as one way of communicating quantitative information. So much of Transition, especially at first, is human connections. Farms, locally owned business, manufacturing and the people who do it, those willing to barter, people/businesses…"
"Have you heard about Lane and Susan's Staple Crop Festival out at their farm on Guemas Island? It is the 25th of Sept. starting at 11:30. I have gathered 11 adults and two children thus far to go out from the Chuckanut area as an unofficial…"
"Hi Sarai
I am thinking you have a good start when you say "It's kind of like describing a dance!"
What has helped me is to practice first by sharing what it is to me personally. Then, once I get that out of my system, I can start…"
"I love your response to how you identify with Transition. It is still hard for me to eloquently promote Transition. It often seems to take too many words and still I feel I fall short of an adequate portrayal. I liken it to trying to verbalize a…"
"Hi Stoney,
I think I know you from my childhood. My name is Sarai and I am the daughter of Royal Post previously married to Meredith Baker. If I am correct you live out by Clear Lake? I am one of the core members of our Chuckanut Transition and have…"
How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
Janet McKinney and I are starting a Transition group in the Bow area. We are also involved in the non-profit Bow Little Market, created to generate local economy and community networking. Look us up a www.BowLittleMarket.com.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I am a mother of two young boys, ages five and nine, I have a responsibility to prepare them for and speak honestly with them about the future. In order for me to share some very heavy realities, I must show them action, responsibility and opportunity.
Also I have come to the conclusion that we are social organisms that evolve as a group. We must regroup, reconnect, and heal feedback loops if we are to move forward.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
Resiliency relies upon all groups of people. I wish to make connections with all neighbors. This is why we started the market. Janet and I will let you know how it goes.
I am also a forest gardener and have much knowledge on perennial gardening, water catchment systems, and permaculture.
I also have several contacts with people that are interested in social/environmentally supportive investment ("Slow Money" )and permaculture training.
Your Favorite Books/Websites/Blogs/RSS Feeds for Information about the Transition Movement
Please read Bill McKibben's book "Eaarth."
I propose Janet and I host a gathering at my house some time in early October (2, 3, 9 or 10th?) sharing a bit of what we learned at the Transition training and what strategies are working, but then just opening the floor to those who wish to participate in brainstorming and collectively coming up with an email list.

Hi Sarai
I am thinking you have a good start when you say "It's kind of like describing a dance!"
What has helped me is to practice first by sharing what it is to me personally. Then, once I get that out of my system, I can start growing the bigger picture. You know, the 'who, what, how, and why...and when'. Thanks for sharing your thoughts about that. I still feel like I fumble around with it at times, too, especially when I am sharing it when least expected...like in a checkout line or at a party.
My wife and I decided to focus on a Transition Fidalgo initiative
as I actually started to sites for Skagit and Fidalgo. Our little
non-profit on Guemes will hopefully develop into a Transition
demonstration. Here are some of our current activities: http://www.youtube.com/madronacenter
We are hoping that folks like yourself, especially with
children, understand the challenges ahead. And, in
fact mamy of the folks active in the Madrona Center
have young children. Again, please visit. A five
minute ferry ride from Anacortes. Cheers, Lane
Welcome Sarah and Brow Little Market. Great to see you both here. ...www.BowLittleMarket.com... Would you be interested in creating a new Group for "BowLittleMarket"? Here's the link -- http://transitionus.ning.com/groups/group/new -- We'll all learn a lot from each other, to be sure.
