Finding a buyer for eggs

Hi Everyone, Today I find a buyer for all the extra eggs I can supply.  Here in Prescott we have a local healthfood store that sells products from many local producers.  Kind of like a mini Farmer's market under a hard roof.  They buy eggs, too, and resell them at a profit.  I am happy with the price they pay and it is the same price as I was going to sell to friends and neighbors. So, just something to keep in mind if you have a small, locally owned health food kind of store, you may be able…See More

Hi Scott -

I got to thinking: "Isn't there cohousing in Prescott, AZ?" Lo and behold!

I bet some folks there would be great allies in Transition -- and eggs!

Cheers!

Very cool! And, yes I do have all those things in the garage...even the wire mesh which I got from my dad a decade ago but couldn't figure out what to do with! He and I did lots of projects throughout his life and I'm proudly project-oriented still. He had more energy than I do (even as he approached the end of life)...so I miss having him here to help! But with the video, I can absolutely build the bins! (Well, I'll start with one). This is so cool! Thank you! Will be in touch re: worm exchange.

Yes, as spring approaches, let's do plan to meet in Jerome for a worm exchange (is it legal to say that on the internet?) HA! I know my tiny garden will benefit and the earth itself will be happier. Got to dig up the soil first, though. Some years there's a big fat frog (or toad?) that lives in the raised garden bed. It's just about the only actual soil in my yard besides the compost area and under my apple tree. Mostly I raise rocks! Something about the energy of rocks that makes me happy.  But the garden soothes my soul.

Hi

I put a photo of my raised garden (it actually became my profile photo somehow...!?!) I don't usually water it during the winter...can worms live in it sans H2O? There's probably some wetness down toward the bottom (in the part that is 2 feet deep) most of the time...just guessing...I'm a garden witch: don't know the rules...just stick things in the ground and they grow. And this winter I'm going to dig out the raised bed to refresh the earth (well, I'm going to hire someone to do that I mean...made my shoulders hurt just saying it!) So I'll wait until after that, nearer spring, to get worms. But I definitely want them! Great little wiggly things.

Hi

It only got down to about 10 or 11 degrees...still quite cold for us lowlanders! I saw that it was "1" there the other night! Don't blame the chickens for staying indoors...Does the cold bother the worms?!

At 5:42am on January 2, 2011, Valencia Bathe said…

Hope your chickens are making it through the cold snap! I am interested in your worm farm, too. I knew a guy in Camp Verde that built an entire house for his worms (sold them and their castings). I may need to get more information on how to keep a bed of worms come spring. Stay warm!
