Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
Just learning. Inspired to see so many friends and acquaintances connecting through this work.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I think our current ways and systems are unsustainable, exploitative, and oppressive -- and have been for a long while. The results have been devastating, with living, social, and economic systems breaking down to a frightening degree. Through my work at YES! Magazine (www.yesmagazine.org), I've come into contact with creative community-based work that's happening all over the US, Canada, and elsewhere -- seeing innovations and solutions that relocalize our economic, energy, and food systems; that democratize our workplaces, prioritize justice and equity, and create fresh opportunities for dialogue, problem-solving, and reconciliation. Mostly, I've seen these hubs as isolated vibrant efforts, but have certainly felt that they represent an emergent movement. One thing that draws me to the Transition Town movement is the vehicle that this social network/site offers for linking the community resiliency/sustainability efforts neighborhood by neighborhood, city by city.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
Giving wider visibility to stories of transition, grassroots innovations, and community resiliency - through social media, YES! communications, and Listen Up! NW weekly radio program (www.listenupnw.org).
