Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
I am working to address our intertwined crises - housing, social, environmental, families under extreme stress and children not getting an education that will serve them or society - through my website and blog. I was fortunate to attend Bill Aal's Transition training in October 2009.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
In the rubble of the collapsed economy, we will find the collective will to make the changes necessary to bring opportunity to everyone, as originally espoused by William Strauss and Neil Howe in Fourth Turning. To the extent that we try to survive this collapse individually, I believe that we will suffer needlessly. As we learn to work together, to bring forth nature's bounty, and rely on each other for support, we will flourish.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
By promoting Transition as a positive response to the collapse.

When Janet's marriage ended in divorce, her Nebraska house sold quickly, requiring that she relocate with two very young children within two weeks. She wisely turned to her friend, Kay, whose marriage had

also recently ended. Janet and the children moved in with Kay and her

four children and they both considered their options.

What isn’t up for grabs? The environment, the economy, Congress, every state in the nation, the Gulf of Mexico, the Middle East, big corporations, small businesses, and the Catholic church, a 2,000 year-old institution, are all in the throes of wrenching change.

Do you long for a shred of stability? Don’t turn blue ...… Continue

The Confused Old Veteran

The veteran was neat as a pin, freshly shaved, wearing Mr. McGoo glasses, complete with the character's confused sweetness. He was dressed in a lint-free, wrinkle-free sport coat, trousers, VA baseball cap, his cane and bedroom slippers. He talked with the bus driver for quite some time. I was late of course and needed to get on with my very important day.… Continue

Witnessing the revolution from the front row seat is fascinating, wrenching and requires more courage than I feel that I have. It is heart breaking to see our wonderful country rent by bitter politics and the hateful under current of racism.

"Moderate" is an adjective that does't apply as well as it once did. The Republican party has yielded its moral and intellectual authority to… Continue

Done in by the lure of the deal

Duty trumped my shopping aversion, requiring a trip to Home Depot where my heart sank at the absurdly low prices. A small bathroom vanity and sink for $88.97, bathroom faucet for $39.97, ceiling fan with 42″ blades and light for $49.97. Junk food must be the worst offender, ...read… Continue

Hi Terry,
Thanks for your nice note. My website hasn't been updated for years, so it's nice to hear that people are still finding something of value there. Soon after I put it online, we found the property for the White Horse Retreat, and it was all outside work from then on.

I'd love to share that story with you. Once the taxes are done, I'll sit down and write it out. Better yet, maybe we can meet in person at some point. What fun! Feel like having a Colorado vacation?
