Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
I am one of the 20 Transition Towns U.S. Trainers providing the TT weekend training for people interested in starting a TT initiative in their town.
I also give informational presentations on TT to groups.
For my work I frequently speak on climate, energy, social change, citizen leadership, green building and home energy, and safe, clean, sustainable solutions to energy and climate problems.
Currently I collaborate with the Sustainability Institute, 350.org, and several other national environmental organizations to provide training and education programs.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
Functioning, vibrant communities are the foundation of a compassionate society, and well-being for all. Our dependency upon cheap oil, coal, and other polluting sources of energy now puts our health, communities, economy and world at great risk.
Communities around the world are beginning to transition. Much is possible in the U.S.
Together we have the skills, knowledge and creativity to help our communities transform. New research and models for change provide options and inspiration. High-efficiency technolgies, renewable energy, systems redesign, personal transformation resources and lifestyle change programs are some of the many solutions available to help us.
Transition Towns is a positive model for bringing a community together to reduce oil dependence, increase economic resilience, and transition to solutions. It offers a program for developing shared strategies for action -- creating solutions that have strong local support. It addresses practical problems while also building community and strengthening caring connections at the local level.
I am impressed by the model and delighted to be a part of helping grow this creative and visionary movement of positive, local action.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
I provide training to help communities launch Transition Towns initiatives. I also give informational presentations about Transition Towns. I support communities in exploring how they want to tackle energy challenges.
I have been a professional trainer and advocate since 1985, working on global warming since 1990. I am a seasoned community organizer, non-profit organizational consultant, public speaker, advocate and facilitator. I have organized local, state and national coalitions that included diverse communities and sectors of society. I have helped dozens of groups plan strategically, reach more people, build unity and strength across diverse sectors, and overcome internal challenges. I help groups engage people from a wide range of political perspectives to work towards common goals.

Hi, Tina. My name is Alex. I attended your transition meeting in North Adams a few days ago and I'm writing a piece on it for a local newspaper. Is there a way I could contact you to ask a few questions? Thanks.

Hi Tina,

Thanks for coming to Ithaca last night. It was good to have a live presentation from a TT organizer. Lots for all of us individually as a group to mull over...oh no, we're mullers!

Here's the link to IthaCan, the online social network for local home food preservers. As I mentioned, we are launching this week.

Hi Tina,

I live in Rindge, NH which is about 50 minutes by car from Turners Falls. Actually I've been to Turners Falls a number of times over the years.

I'd like to know what it will take to get you involved in helping to introduce the Transition town movement to Rindge, NH. I have the ear of one of our town selectman, Pat Barry. She is interested in reading the Rob Hopkins book, so I'll lend her my copy, but I'd like to do more than that and involve more people in the town from the get-go.

Let me know what you can.

Thanks.

Welcome Tina! Great to see you here on Transition U.S. "... I bring 23 years experience as a consultant, trainer, advocate, community leader and facilitator..." -- And aren't we lucky to have you here! Let our community here know what you need to help build those coalitions, plan strategically, reach out effectively, build unity and strength, engage and mobilize... wow, are we luck!

Come and see the new US Transition Map we rolled out this past weekend. As this page develops, it will become a map of U.S. and World Transition resources. All 50 states are now active. Many state sites are brand new! Go to MASSACHUSETTS and sign in. Invite others. Enter some of your local events. Start Discussions. Make Transition! Have fun!
