Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
Not currently involved but I am interested in starting a group in Knoxville, TN.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
I have always been interested in the environment, collapse, and survival. The transition movement seems to be a rational, practical combination of these.

I am very interested in all aspects of sustainability - local business and alternative economics, voluntary simplicity, and environmental sustainability. Although I tend to be an enviro first, I think that all these aspects are interlinking.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
Let me offer a quick overview of my experiences, and you tell me how I can help you.

I have been a lover of nature and self sufficiency since childhood. In my adult years I have volunteered with many environmental and political organizations. I played a major role in two local political campaigns for the Green Party of Knoxville and did Get Out the Vote work for ACORN in the 2004 presidential election.

I have also always been interested in small business and entrepreneurship, and I believe that a diversity of local businesses is important to the long term health of any community. I currently work for a small business, but I will be looking for work once I move to Knoxville.

Some of my nature writing has been published - two articles in Back Home magazine, which is dedicated to self sufficiency and sustainability, and several in the Hellbender Press, East Tennessee's Environmental Journal. I am working on more!

Talk to Me!

This is an open invitation to talk to me about the transition movement. I learn best through conversation. I want to meet and talk face to face or online. I'm on skype and several other platforms, so just let me know what works for you!

I Have Questions!

I'd love to have a conversation with someone about this, either through Skype, phone, or in person, but I can put some of the questions down here.

1. What kinds of things are going on in the US, and in the Southeast? Is the Transition movement primarily working on practical skills? Are there any legislative efforts going on? What about other kinds of advocacy or promotion? Is anyone interested in an organized transition group? What would people like to see happen but don't have the time to do?

2. What kind of resources are out there? Is there funding out there for this sort of thing?

Why I Believe in Transition

Posted on August 16, 2009 at 8:00pm 0 Comments

The Transition movement started as a response to the twin threats of global climate change and peak oil. The age of cheap energy is coming to an end. Managing this change is an unprecedented challenge on a global scale.

Oil Discovery vs. Production

Transition Towns provide a grassroots model for meeting this challenge.
