Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
Just getting started. I will be taking the Portland training and have applied to the training of trainer program later in Dec.
I have been working on TT related ideas and projects for a long while, especially promoting local food production, facing the global climate change/resource overshoot and social justice issues of Seattle and the NorthWest.
I do both political and spiritual work around these issues as part of my "day job" with Tools for Change and my partner Margo Adair. We work with many tools including the Work that Reconnects, inspired by Joanna Macy. We are currently working with Starhawk on developing courses in social permaculture - certification in permaculture with additional training that includes social justice and spiritual components.
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
We need grassroots approaches to the social, ecological and economic crises facing us. TT provides people with ways we can do something
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
training, sharing information supporting the growth of the network.

Huge news! Seattle, New York, London and Tokyo declare themselves as Cities in Transition

Posted on April 1, 2010 at 12:20pm 1 Comment

Did any one else see this yet? Seattle, New York, London and Tokyo just declared themselves as Transition Cities. The Mike McGinn just issued a proclamation about this, citing Transition Whatcom County in northern Wshington State, as his inspiration. He and Richard Conlin (green City Councilor of Seattle) are planning to come to their Great Unleashing!

See the New York Times story about this:…

My condolences on the passing of Margo. I am glad to hear that you have a community that is holding you. We will all separate from our loved ones -- may we all be so fortunate to be held. ~Judith

Bill: Robert Sund was one of my closest friends. I made paper for him and spent a lot of time with him in LaConner and Anacortes. He is missed.

Bill: Nice to see you still are following T Cascadia. Heather is helping me learn how to use Ning a little better. We definately need a facilitator! hint...Here is what I sent to Tamara. Would you be interested to be an administrator. It doesn't require any work.

Tamara: Heather is helping me with organization of Transition Cascadia. First change is that instead of me being sole administrator, I can share it with others (I didn't know this). You and Heather, Collin
and a few others can now initiate Discussion groups. Then hopefully we can stay on track and send personal exchanges to discussion groups. As soon as I find out other things you can do as administrator, I'll let you know. Thanks for all your time and thoughts. Happy Hoildays. PS. I hope as administrators we can make T Cascadia more effective and win back the folks we have lost and invite and help other smaller initiatives. And I am working out a way to create a library of our work and other important information. Not me alone. More later when I am more awake. Lane

Hi Bill,
Thanks for the note and the offer. After the presentations at the Bullock's on Saturday, Robyn and I will be headed to Seattle on Sunday and sit in as guest critiques at the final design presentations of a PDC. Perhaps you can come to say hello then? That afternoon/evening, we'll be headed towards Portland. Thanks again for the note, and perhaps we can still meet up somehow. My number is 909.802.9177

Bill: How did your training go in Seattle. I have had
hip problems and am having a problem running
two properties. If you know anyone who would like
to run a permaculture, organic farming and alternative
building program with Transition Towns thrown in,
please let me know. Here are the places. Our home
