Profile Information

How are you currently involved in the Transition movement?
I have been involved for many years mainly through research in different states and stages of human consciousness which plays a major role in whether or not people are going to transition into "transformation" which takes one to a higher level of consciousness or not. . .
In what ways do you identify with the Transition movement? Why are you interested?
Because I have been in the process of being trained for, and becoming a social change agent for close to 20 years. I was homeless in the last great recession of the early 90's and experienced a transitional movement first hand and was then able to move forward into transformation. Transformation is a spiritual activity that hs to do with how the brain/mind is configured and as a result what state of consciousness one is in. Is one operating from a holodynamic state or from a left-brain or right-brain oriented state? Different states appear to determine how information is received and processed.
How can you help the growth/acceptance/vitality of the Transition movement? What can YOU teach us? What can your GROUP teach us?
Well, what I am saying here is that "transition" indicates a temporary phase whereas "transformation" is a permanent move into another level of consciousness. But then, there are always other higher stages of development one may go through - the potential for growth is unlimited. So, no stage is really permanent unless one wants to close one's mind and refuse to move on into another level. I am not only welled versed in in how transformation takes place and can enable and empower people in "getting there" wherever "there" is for them, but am also well-versed in how to create sustainable living communities.
Your Favorite Books/Websites/Blogs/RSS Feeds for Information about the Transition Movement
Having read over a thousand books on subjects related to the monetary system, creating sustainable living communities and human consciousness, it is difficult to point one or several out. However, a favorite author of mine is Joseph Chilton Pearce because he knows so much about the "body electric" and presents "who we are" from a biological point of view with a great deal of sensitivity in his book: "The Biology of Transcendence - A Blueprint for the Human Spirit". And then there is Dr. Valerie Hunt's book: Infinite Mind: The Science of the Human Vibrations of Consciousness which gives a lot of insight to how as the "body electric" we actually work. And it appears to me that we need to know who we are and how we operate before we can design sustainable habits for ourselves which enable us in creating communities which can create a pathways to peace.

Suggestions you have for improving our Registration questions. Getting to know you better.
Well, as I wrote for the Transition California site, I do believe that the question asked by the later Dr. R. Buckminster Fuller is most appropriate to include in registration questions. What he asked was: "If the survival Planet today is dependent upon you, who you are and what you do, who will you choose to be and what will you do? This is not a theoretical question. And it is one that each of us must contemplate and then determine what our role today will be.

PRISON REFORM in California

Posted on June 27, 2010 at 12:03am 0 Comments

There is a tremendous need for prison reform here in the state of California as these edifices are now housing more than twice the number of inmates they were originally designed to house. Also, the costs of housing inmates are sky-rocketing due to the aging of the prison population. While it costs around $45,000 to house a 35 year old inmate it now costs an average of $150,000 to house a inmate over 60 due to health care costs. And due to the Three Strikes Law, many of those in prison are… Continue

I too am a senior living on a small, fixed income. My only source of heat here in Central Pennsylvania is a wood stove on which I cook all winter. I dry the green beans along with pepper, tomatoes, fruits, etc.. Although it is too damp here to completely dry foods, they can be partially dried on a sunny, breezy day and then finished in the dryer, thereby taking very little energy. The dried shell beans, I pour boiling water over and soak overnight. They will then cook faster.

BTW, Mary, yes I'm familiar with the Blessed Unrest video. Paul is a friend who I see every once in a while. There is an excellent keynote of his here:
www.greenbuildexpo.org/Video/archived-videos/2007-videos/Paul-Hawken.aspx
in which he talks about all this and gives a great history of the whole movement. His keynote begins about 2/3 of the way through. Should you have any interest in seeing it, about ten or fifteen minutes into this video (which is from the 2007 Greenbuild Conference in Chicago) you can see me receive the 2007 USGBC Leadership Award for Organizational Excellence.
It's also worth listening to the Youth Speaks readings at the beginning and end of this video as well. There's not much else worth listening to until Paul begins his talk. I've heard several other talks of his over the past few years with similar content and this is a pretty good one for the frame of reference he brings. And it includes Blessed Unrest and that clip of all those organizations. Funny to realize that at least a couple of my cards were among those that triggered his wondering about how many of us there are...
Blessings,
David

Thanks Mary and Les. As I have time I will explore and post information, links, etc. Lots I'm juggling at the moment, with finally some paid work with local governments helping analyze and make recommendations about greening their building and development codes and standards, plus an upcoming keynote in Colorado and an EPA-sponsored webinar for local, state and tribal government officials on greening codes.

Hi Mary Rose. The best way to use groups begins with your having 5 or 20 or 50 people who are interested in Prison Reform and in need of a place where they can dialogue their interests. You are the one who invites them through phone calls, email, and other personal contacts. As they go about their discussions and others here on this site see the onging activity, the group grows.
