A SUMMER SOLSTICE POEM: THE SUMMER DAY, By Mary Oliver

Who made the world?

Who made the swan, and the black bear?

Who made the grasshopper?

This grasshopper, I mean-

the one who has flung herself out of the grass,

the one who is eating sugar out of my hand,

who is moving her jaws back and forth instead of up and down-

who is gazing around with her enormous and complicated eyes.

Now she lifts her pale forearms and thoroughly… Continue

Nuclear Energy Production: Southern Ohio and the French connection

Thank you Richard for sharing the following information. There is no easy solution to America's woes and it's good to weigh out all options. I personally think the key is in changing our lifestyles with serious energy conservation: reduce demand, reduce the push for more energy production. But, in the meantime, sounds to me like we need to revisit our preparedness measures in the realm of radiological shelter-in-place actions. kj

Let's Repower America!

Dear Member of Congress:

We can repower America with clean energy, protect our environment, and transform our economy in the process -- putting millions of Americans to work building wind turbines, installing solar panels, weatherizing homes, and building the 100-miles-per-gallon cars of the future.

I urge you to support and strengthen American Clean Energy and Security Act of 2009.

Thank you.

Activists Risk Arrest to Stop Mountaintop Removal

Hi Folks...Please become aware of what Mountaintop Removal is about and please help spread the word--- the Appalachian Coal Country is a precious bioregion...please help stop this rape and destruction. Not only that, more coal fired powerplants are going up in the Ohio River Valley where air quality and heavy metal pollution is already out of hand.

The situation is desperate; at the very least please find out where your electricity comes from and conserve it!

Thank you. kj in… Continue

October 24, 2009 - International Day of Climate Action

From 350.org ---because the world needs to know...

Dear Friends,

I'm writing this wrap-up from the latest round of UN Climate Negotiations in Germany, where world leaders are have been dragging their feet in creating a new climate treaty. Again.

It's politics as usual: without a clear demand from the public, politicians are being swayed by corporate lobbyists and others who oppose real action.

We'll never have the money of the lobbyists - last year… Continue

COLLAPSE CONUNDRUM: CONFRONTATION OR DESCENT BY DEGREES? By Carolyn Baker

Recently, Transition Town founder, Rob Hopkins, and Peak Oil researcher and writer, Richard Heinberg, debated the pros and cons of planning for emergencies in transition communities as individuals organize to powerdown and localize to the fullest extent possible. The conversation was rich and thought-provoking, and both Hopkins and Heinberg offered incredibly important, diverse perspectives that widened my vision of the topic and reiterated for me the complexity of the issues involved. As with… Continue

In Transition

One word review for the film “In Transition” that has been available these two short days: Bravo!
I wish we do not have to wait six months for the DVD. After watching the film three times I see it as one of the most natural and compelling pitches of the Transition movement. It has a great draw potential, easy to run, attractive and very thought provoking.
