Viridis Africa attracts significant clean tech investors

2012 is shaping to be a decisive year for commercialization of clean technology projects deployed throughout South Africa and the African region.

Despite much jostling and positioning by local and international players to become a preferred supplier of renewable energy to ESKOM, a late change of terms reference, effectively  resulted in reducing power purchase prices and has caused many of the bidders  to go back to the drawing board.

However this has resulted…

Fiver's blog: Pulling the "D" ring"

A few days ago I went to Carpenter's Hall in Philadelphia to experience the latest Delaware Valley Green Building Council's presentation on the latest green building standards. The presenter, Laura Blau, called it Apples to Apples and did a quick comparison of three of the best of the high-performance building standards now on the market. They were the USGBC's LEED standards[1]  They were compared to Passive House[2], and the very stringent Living Building Challenge[3].

Made two presentations on Transition Towns recently... Interesting experience... PA EAC's and USGBC chapters a help

I have been doing two monthly sustainability video-discussion events for almost a 18 months. As usual, I didn't think to post the most recent events here, even they were on the Transition movement. I don't think I've ever had a response from this website. I was surprised by a nice turnout for both the Doylestown and the Warminster, PA events. Sold (at cost) several copies of the Trans Initiatives Primer. I missed out getting mailing list at both, but can recover most. I knew about half of the… Continue

"Understanding Drought", COMET program

Most agree that the effects of climate change may trigger an increase in the frequency and severity of weather events, including drought.

Drought is an important topic to me as I utilize a system of rain water harvesting for my potable water supply and the pond for my garden irrigation system. It is therefore important for me to understand weather patterns as I adjust my preparedness and resource management practices, in this case it equates to stockpiling water and varying degrees… Continue

Read March National Geo and Get Others to do the Same

If I were King I would certainly give Chris Johns Editor-in-Chief at National Geographic Magazine an award for bravery and vision. Over the past few years he and his staff have put together some of the most cutting edge and insightful articles on climate change, peak oil, and the energy crisis and now in the March 2009 issue they have hit the nail smack on the head again with the article Saving Energy: It Starts at Home. (The article on Canadian oil sands is not bad either.)

In my… Continue
