Hooked on Growth - Meet the Filmmaker

Peak Moment 177: Dave Gardner's upcoming documentary looks at modern society and asks, why are we behaving irrationally? There's overwhelming evidence we've reached the limits to growth, yet continue in our addiction to it. In a search for the cure, Dave starts with the need to tell different stories and shares examples from several folks he's interviewed. He highlights an amusing segment which depicts a family's impacts remaining in their yard! If the foregoing is true, I truly hope there are many ways of reprogramming and that most of them can be self-administered. I'm afraid nothing else is politically palatable or commercially viable.

Somehow, we'll lead them to(ward) water they wish to drink.

Comment by mary rose on August 9, 2010 at 3:56pm: The problem of why we are behaving erratically lays within human consciousness. What Dave is not understanding is according to Dr. Bruce H. Lipton, M.D., Ph.D., author of "The Biology of Belief - The Science of How Thoughts Control Life" and recipient of the 2009 GOI Peace Award for his research in "epi-genetics," is that we are products of our environment. For years it was thought that genes controlled who we are; however, the field of epi-genetics, which means "above the genes" reveals that it is our environment that controls who we are, or more accurately, it is our perception of our environment.

And, "our perception" of our environment means that we have been programmed by parents and significant others to think in a certain way until about age 7 - 10. But the picture we got from our parents and significant others is not accurate. We have been programmed to believe that our resources are infinite, that humankind does not have an impact on the environment. Some of us have been programmed to hate people of color, and to believe that they are different from the rest of us. Now, it is necessary for us to "reprogram our minds" and reprogramming our sub-conscious mind is the only way for us to comprehend what is going on today and be able to deal with the reality of what is. Otherwise we simply go on believing what we have been programmed to believe. We are configured very much like quantum computers -- each one of our cells is configured just like a computer chip -- our brain acts just like a computer processor. I will attempt to find a video with Dr. Lipton explaining this.
